Project Description – Preparation of Feasibility Study Report for Establishing a Plastic Industry

SAIF POWERTEC LIMITED, a private limited company operating in Bangladesh in the sale and servicing of construction, material-handling, and power-generation equipment, engaged Young Consultants (YC) to prepare a detailed feasibility study report for the proposed establishment of a plastic manufacturing industry in Dhaka, Bangladesh. The assignment aimed to assess the overall viability and sustainability of the proposed investment through a comprehensive examination of its technical, managerial, marketing, financial, economic, socioeconomic, and environmental aspects. The study was intended to provide the client with a structured basis for investment planning and decision-making by evaluating the project’s operational requirements, market opportunities, investment needs, and potential financial returns.

The management and technical assessment focused on evaluating the capabilities and experience of the proposed industry’s core management team and key technical personnel. YC examined the technical suitability of the proposed manufacturing processes, machinery, and equipment, as well as the availability of essential raw materials and skilled workers. The assessment also considered the suitability of the proposed project location, its connectivity to transport infrastructure, and the availability and requirements of essential utilities needed to support efficient manufacturing operations.

The market assessment examined the commercial prospects of the proposed plastic industry through an analysis of demand and supply conditions, industry and sector trends, and the competitive environment. The study included competitor analysis, supply and value chain assessment, and the identification of relevant market opportunities. These findings informed the development of an appropriate marketing strategy and supported an assessment of the proposed enterprise’s potential market positioning, competitiveness, and commercial sustainability.

The financial and economic assessment examined the proposed project’s investment requirements and anticipated operating performance. YC assessed the estimated project cost, proposed debt-to-equity structure, and loan repayment schedule. The financial analysis incorporated key indicators and techniques, including financial ratio analysis, break-even analysis, return on investment (ROI), and debt service coverage ratio (DSCR), to evaluate potential profitability, operational sustainability, and the project’s capacity to meet its financing obligations. The overall feasibility assessment also considered the broader socioeconomic and environmental dimensions of the proposed industrial undertaking.

The assignment culminated in the preparation of a detailed feasibility study report integrating the findings of the technical, managerial, market, financial, economic, socioeconomic, and environmental assessments. The report provided SAIF POWERTEC LIMITED with an evidence-based assessment of the principal requirements, commercial prospects, financial considerations, and potential risks associated with establishing a plastic manufacturing industry, supporting informed consideration of the proposed investment.
