Training Program on Labour Standards and Workplace Environment in RMG and Textile Industries

Young Consultants (YC) was engaged by the Ministry of Commerce and the Export Promotion Bureau (EPB), Government of Bangladesh, to implement a capacity-building training program on labour standards and workplace environment in the ready-made garment (RMG) and textile industries. The initiative was undertaken as part of the Quality and Skill Development Project under the Post-MFA Actions Programme of the Ministry of Commerce, Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh. The program aimed to strengthen the knowledge and professional capabilities of industry personnel and entrepreneurs to address emerging challenges in the post-MFA trade environment.

During the assignment, YC identified prospective participants from the RMG and textile industries across Bangladesh and prepared a shortlist of eligible candidates. The firm developed and produced training modules, course curricula, and instructional materials tailored to the industry’s capacity-building requirements. YC also engaged qualified trainers and resource persons to deliver the training sessions and facilitate knowledge-sharing among participants.

YC organized six training courses across Dhaka and Chittagong, delivering training to 172 participants in six batches. To complement classroom learning with practical exposure, the firm arranged six field visits to factories within the Bangladesh Export Processing Zones Authority (BEPZA) areas in Dhaka and Chittagong. These visits enabled participants to gain practical insights into workplace conditions, labour standards, and industrial practices.

In addition, YC evaluated the training courses and trainers upon completion of the sessions, assessed the overall training outcomes, and prepared and submitted training completion reports to the Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) and the Ministry of Commerce. The firm also provided the logistical arrangements and resource support required to ensure the effective delivery of the training activities.

Through this assignment, YC contributed to strengthening the capacity of RMG and textile industry personnel to understand and apply labour standards and improve workplace environments in Bangladesh.
