Biogas Users’ Survey 2011

Young Consultants (YC conducted the Biogas Users’ Survey 2011 for Infrastructure Development Company Limited (IDCOL), in collaboration with the Netherlands Development Organisation (SNV), under the National Domestic Biogas and Manure Programme (NDBMP). The survey aimed to assess the programme’s performance and progress towards establishing a sustainable and commercially viable domestic biogas sector in Bangladesh.

The study covered Dhaka and 20 other districts and examined the direct and indirect benefits of domestic biogas technology for rural households. It assessed the technology’s effects on energy use, greenhouse gas emission reduction, environmental conditions, health and sanitation, agricultural practices, and household socio-economic conditions. The survey also explored the effects on climate change mitigation, the workloads of women and children, and the overall well-being of biogas users.

YC mobilized the study team, designed the survey methodology, and developed questionnaires for primary data collection. The firm oriented field investigators and collected primary and secondary data through field-level research, key informant interviews (KIIs), and focus group discussions (FGDs).

Following data collection, YC conducted data entry and analysis and prepared the draft study report. In consultation with IDCOL, the firm also organized a national workshop to disseminate the findings among relevant stakeholders. The final report incorporated feedback and observations received from IDCOL and participants at the stakeholder meeting, ensuring that the study findings were reviewed and documented comprehensively.
