Project Description – Energy Enterprise Coach (EEC) Programme

The Energy Enterprise Coach (EEC) Programme was an initiative conceptualized and funded by the Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO) to strengthen the business development capabilities, professionalization, and investment readiness of renewable energy Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) in Bangladesh. The programme aimed to address the key challenges faced by SMEs in the clean energy sector, particularly gaps in business management skills, financial knowledge, marketing capabilities, and access to finance. Implemented in Bangladesh, the assignment focused on enterprises in Gazipur, Jhenaidah, and Faridpur, with particular emphasis on businesses selling smart cooking products. The programme aimed to support the sustainable growth of these enterprises by equipping them with practical business knowledge, relevant management skills, and improved operational capabilities.

Under this assignment, Young Consultants (YC) was responsible for providing comprehensive Business Development Services (BDS) training to renewable energy SMEs. The programme targeted a minimum of 150 enterprises and was designed to address their specific business needs through customized training interventions. The training covered key areas, including sales and marketing, finance and accounting, and online presence. These thematic areas were selected to help participating enterprises improve their market reach, strengthen financial management practices, enhance their digital visibility, and develop more effective business strategies. The training approach emphasized practical learning, active participation, and the application of acquired knowledge to real business situations.

The assignment involved the design and development of customized training programmes and learning materials tailored to the needs and challenges of the participating enterprises. The training modules were structured to provide relevant, accessible, and actionable knowledge that participants could apply directly to their business operations. Interactive training sessions were facilitated to encourage engagement, knowledge sharing, and practical problem-solving among participants. Particular attention was given to strengthening participants’ understanding of business development, customer engagement, financial planning, accounting practices, and digital marketing. The programme also incorporated the assessment of participant assignments and activities to evaluate learning progress and reinforce the practical application of the training content.

In addition to delivering training, the assignment included monitoring and evaluating the effectiveness of the interventions. The team reviewed participants’ assignments, provided constructive feedback, and assessed their understanding of the topics covered. Feedback was collected from participants to identify strengths, address implementation challenges, and determine opportunities for improving the training approach. The team also collaborated with relevant stakeholders, trainers, and programme representatives to ensure that the training remained responsive to the evolving needs of the SMEs. Post-training support was incorporated into the programme to help participating enterprises apply their newly acquired knowledge and strengthen their business development practices beyond the training sessions.

The assignment further involved maintaining accurate records of training activities, participant attendance, assignments, and individual progress. Comprehensive reports were prepared to document the implementation process, training outcomes, participant performance, and recommendations for future improvement. The project was carried out over an 18-month period, from April 2024 to August 2025, with an approximate contract value of EUR 120,000. Through the combined delivery of customized training, practical learning, performance assessment, feedback, and reporting, the EEC Programme sought to improve the business capabilities and investment readiness of renewable energy SMEs in Bangladesh, contributing to the broader development of the clean energy sector and supporting the growth of enterprises engaged in smart cooking solutions.
