Survey of Investment and Financial Demand for “JICA Study on FDI Promotion Projects in Bangladesh”

Young Consultants (YC), in association with Nippon Koei, conducted the Survey of Investment and Financial Demand for the “JICA Study on FDI Promotion Projects in Bangladesh” during July–August 2014. Commissioned by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), the assignment aimed to assess the investment interests of Japanese companies and Japanese-Bangladeshi joint venture companies in establishing businesses within proposed Economic Zones (EZs) in Bangladesh.

The study focused on identifying potential investor demand and understanding the investment interests of Japanese and Bangladeshi enterprises. YC conducted an enterprise survey covering 114 companies across Dhaka, Chittagong, Comilla, and Karnaphuli Export Processing Zones (EPZs), as well as Dhaka City. The findings were intended to support JICA’s planning and investment promotion initiatives for attracting foreign direct investment (FDI) and facilitating the development of Economic Zones in Bangladesh.

Scope of Services Provided
1. Survey Preparation

Prepared the survey framework and organized the necessary activities to assess the investment interests of Japanese companies and Japanese-Bangladeshi joint venture enterprises in the proposed Economic Zones.

2. Enterprise Listing and Identification

Developed a list of enterprises for the survey, identifying relevant Japanese and Bangladeshi companies to gather information on their investment interests and potential demand for Economic Zone facilities.

3. Primary Data Collection

Conducted an enterprise survey covering 114 Japanese and Bangladeshi companies across the designated locations to assess their investment interests and potential engagement with the proposed Economic Zones.

4. Coordination with JICA Officials

Held meetings with JICA officials to coordinate survey activities, discuss implementation progress, and facilitate communication throughout the assignment.

5. Interim Report Preparation

Prepared and submitted an interim report documenting the progress of the enterprise survey and its preliminary findings.

6. Final Report Preparation and Submission

Compiled the survey findings and submitted the final survey completion report to support JICA’s assessment of investment demand and its foreign direct investment promotion initiatives in Bangladesh.
