Enterprise Survey on Potential Investment to the Upcoming Economic Zones (EZ) in Bangladesh

Young Consultants (YC), in consortium with World Business Associates Co. Limited (WBA), undertook the Enterprise Survey on Potential Investment to the Upcoming Economic Zones (EZ) in Bangladesh under a technical assistance project funded by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). The assignment was commissioned by the Bangladesh Economic Zones Authority (BEZA) to assess the potential demand for investment in upcoming Economic Zones and identify the requirements of prospective Japanese, other foreign, and local investors.

The study aimed to support investment promotion initiatives by gathering information on investors’ target sectors, investment interests, and requirements for support services. The findings were intended to facilitate the development of Economic Zones and their surrounding infrastructure with JICA assistance. The study involved interviewing existing and prospective investors to understand their investment priorities and identify the support necessary to attract investment to the upcoming Economic Zones.

Scope of Services Provided
1. Survey Preparation

Prepared the survey framework and organized the necessary activities to conduct the enterprise survey targeting existing and prospective investors in the upcoming Economic Zones.

2. Identification of Survey Participants

Developed a list of enterprises for the survey, identifying potential respondents across 15 selected sectors to gather information on investment opportunities and investor requirements.

3. Questionnaire Development

Developed the survey questionnaire and obtained approval from the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) to ensure its suitability for collecting relevant information from the selected enterprises.

4. Primary Data Collection

Conducted Key Informant Interviews (KIIs) with 30 enterprises across 15 selected sectors to assess potential investment demand, identify target investment areas, and understand investors’ requirements for support services.

5. Data Entry and Processing

Entered the collected primary survey data into SPSS to facilitate systematic data management and prepare the information for analysis.

6. Data Analysis and Report Preparation

Analyzed the collected data and prepared the survey report, presenting findings on investment potential, investor interests, and support requirements relevant to the development and promotion of upcoming Economic Zones.

7. Final Report Submission

Prepared and submitted the final survey completion report documenting the study findings and outcomes.
