Young Consultants (YC) managed matching grant activities for the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) under a World Bank-supported initiative aimed at strengthening the capacity of the BGMEA Secretariat. The project focused on improving business support services, enhancing trade promotion capabilities, fostering international partnerships, and modernizing operational systems to better serve Bangladesh’s ready-made garment (RMG) industry.
YC prepared a service development plan to strengthen business support services, trade promotion, and international network development. The firm organized a study tour for six BGMEA staff members and facilitated networking visits by the BGMEA Secretary to Spain, Greece, and Belgium. These activities supported knowledge exchange and helped identify opportunities for collaboration with European trade promotion and industry organizations.
The assignment also involved identifying suitable European partner organizations and establishing initial contacts to develop long-term institutional relationships. YC prepared a framework for network development and the exchange of business delegates, facilitated memoranda of agreement among four partners, and provided logistical and project management support to coordinate implementation.
In addition, YC monitored the design and development of customized software for managing Utilization Declarations (UD) and Utilization Permissions (UP) in Bangladesh’s apparel sector. The firm also monitored the development of the BGMEA web portal, supporting the modernization of industry services and the expansion of digital access to information for apparel exporters.
